This picture was photographed at Aakenustunturi, Kittilä in November 2003. You can see the so-called "corona phenomenon" that comes to the sky first, and starts the entire Northern Lights show. It is quite seldom one can actually see this phenomenon. At that time there was an extraordinarily strong magnetic storm in the Earth's athmosphere, coming from the Sun that caused an unprecedented colour show on the sky.

This picture was photographed when the moon was full at Levitunturi, Kittilä. The moon brings out the shadows of the snow-packed trees, and on the left you can see a pale light coming from Levitunturi.
